Sunday Service with UUUF
“Shining Light on Lessons Learned”
with Paula Despang & UUUF Members
When we were young, we were given lessons in racism. We didn’t know that they were lessons. They were not always explicit. We didn’t ask for them, and we often objected to them. Nevertheless, we learned. It is now time to acknowledge those lessons and do better because now we know better. So during this service, honoring the heart of the message of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream, we will hear an example of how some of those lessons were, “taught.” In small groups, we’ll discuss these types of stories a little further. Let us get these stories out into the open, turn on the lights, and help each of us do better.
We are a “lay-led” congregation with a different speaker every Sunday morning. We hear from a wide variety of academic, spiritual, and social justice speakers. Our Sunday Services are designed to illuminate different spiritual paths and strengthen our sense of self, family, and community.
