“COVID-19’s Impact on the Muslim World”
with Imam Abdurrahman Sykes
As the world faces the greatest disruption of our lifetimes, Muslims worldwide are also grappling with the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic. Adapting to new social norms in a religion that promotes a collective culture, cancellation of our two holy days, and practice limitations on three of the five pillars of Islamic (congregational prayer five times daily, Communal practice for Ramadhan fast-breaking and nightly worship, and the Annual pilgrimages to Mecca) coupled with the balance between precaution, reliance on God, and religious discrimination is having a massive impact on Muslim’s mental, physical, and spiritual health.
