TITLE: Post-Scarcity Abundance, Definitions and Outcomes

DESCRIPTION

This week, we will explore post-scarcity abundance, which was mentioned last week. When our material survival needs are met, our focus may shift to individual pursuits in the form of the meaning of life and purpose… for self and perhaps for the collective.

First, we will discuss the general concept of post-scarcity abundance. What measures denote abundance? And what are the implications of abundance relating to the modern world’s production, allocation, and consumption of goods? What role does technology play in achieving post-scarcity through advances in automation and manufacturing techniques?

Next, we will consider ‘abundance’ as an inspiration for new life priorities. With increased ease in acquiring the necessities of life, are some people more apt to then pursue fulfillment through self-advancement (including opportunities for lifelong learning)?

Finally, we’ll talk about how resources are managed in a post-scarcity society and the strategies utilized for equitable distribution of goods. We’ll consider deeper probing questions regarding personal philosophies of a work ethic related to the demands and pressures of paid work beyond necessary earnings. Do some working-class individuals see the potential for reduced work hours or a shift to a new line of work once they have moved beyond the basic income necessity?

We hope you’ll join us for this interesting topic!

Our Sunday Service at 10:30 – https://universityuus.org/

Speaker: Erin Catlin – Our Planet. Our Home. Our Responsibility.

Who is responsible to tackle the problems that we face due to climate change and environmental degradation? Who is doing that work now, and what does it entail? How do the principles of UU call us to participate in climate advocacy?

As UUs, we are encouraged to discover and follow our own spiritual path by asking questions and looking deep for answers.
