Critical Thinking: Education and Discrimination, from Socrates to Sojourner

Critical thinking is important for students and adults. Technology allows misinformation to spread quickly in our modern world, so we must train ourselves to be critical thinkers. How can we strengthen our minds? The first article on our reading list (from The Atlantic) is a discussion about how to teach critical thinking, how early to start, and why this is a civic imperative. The second article (from The New Yorker) explores why it’s difficult to change our minds, even when we have the facts.

We will also reach back into history to examine the underpinnings of critical thinking. We will review the great thinkers: Socrates, Aquinas, Descartes, Voltaire, Frederick Douglass, and Sojourner Truth. In addition, our third article is a brief and incisive explanation of the relationship between critical thinking and discrimination. Please join StoicDan for this presentation and discussion. We hope to see you there!
