Stoic Stress Relief: Reasoning to Laughter
Following our discussions on cognitive reframing and coping with disasters, this week we will explore the strategies used by the Ancient Stoics to relieve stress. Some of the popular Stoic tools involve reducing worry and seeing the big picture, but we will also review other methods such as making better choices and choosing laughter. In our reading materials, this week are a Daily Stoic video (7 minutes) and a Daily Stoic article (12 strategies). StoicDan and Joe Bullock will compare these ideas to past discussions at our groups: Orlando Stoics and Philadelphia Stoics. Then we’ll conclude with a quote from Seneca the Younger. Please join us this Sunday for this interesting discussion!
“He who laughs has joy. The very soul must be happy and confident, lifted above every circumstance.” — Seneca
