Many of the teens went to the all age CON in Miami last month and had a great time! They have been working hard to plan the Social Action CON this month, Chick-CON of the Sea, when they will concentrate their efforts on cleaning up a beach. About 7 teens and several adults went to the District Assembly in Sarasota, where they camped out on the grounds in a huge teepee. Kayli Carter presented an awesome and well attended workshop: “Guiding Florida Toward the Future of Youth Ministry—BEACON Youth.” Rachel Christensen followed up with a group discussion later in the afternoon, “The Next Steps in Youth Ministries.” The District Board had decided that they need to have youth representation and have asked BEACON to help them select two youth to attend their meetings and have a voice in the near future, while they are in process of changing their Bylaws to allow for a youth position, which should be in place for a vote next year. This was largely due to the presentation made by Kayli and her father Cleve at the last District Board meeting, when they were examining how the District is responding to the UUA call to be supportive of our youth and in what ways they could be effective. We are sure proud of all of you!
